Cebu CC chases PAL history

The 72nd PAL Interclub in Cebu was drummed up using one club’s quest for a place in its long history.

But that team might end up being a footnote of Cebu Country Club’s incredible journey in the last two days as it kept five-peat seeking Manila Southwoods at bay to keep the overall lead and stay on track toward becoming an immortal squad in the country’s unofficial team championship.

With burly Bayani Garcia shooting a level par 72 worth 36 points at Mactan Island Golf Club on Friday, Cebu CC pooled a third round 131 to take a four-point lead over Southwoods with a 376 aggregate going into the final 18 holes that will be played on its home course.

Only once has a team coming from a lower division win the Overall title—Aguinaldo in 1988 over Canlubang—whose five straight championships in the 1990s is what Southwoods is chasing.
