Lady Eagles soar past Lady Maroons

Ateneo survived a third-set assault by University of the Philippines to win, 25-21, 25-15, 28-26, Sunday night stretching its winning streak all the way to solo top spot in the UAAP women’s volleyball ay Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Playing the brand of game absent during the inaugurals, the Lady Eagles have since strung up four straight victories to take leadership with a 4-1 record.

But the surprising thing was how the Lady Maroons appeared disjointed and flustered in losing their second match in five starts.

UP, which was the first team to have dealt three-time defending champion La Salle its first loss this season, wasn’t able to get into the groove after committing 11 errors in the first set alone.

But it suddenly came to life in the third set, racing back from 16-12 to even take a set-point, 26-25, on Marian Buitre’s service ace.

Until the Lady Maroons committed back-to-back errors and Deanna Wong flicked in the winning tip for the win.
