Letran netters zero in on finals

MANILA, Philippines—Defending champion Letran moved within a win of a finals berth following a 3-0 shutout of San Sebastian Wednesday in the round-robin semifinals of the 87th NCAA men’s lawn tennis tournament at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

The Knights leaned on solid performances from Dave Regencia and Jeffrei Jumawan in the singles matches to drub the Stags.

The Squires duplicated the Knights’ feat in junior play with a 3-0 blanking of La Salle Green Hills, 3-0. Reigning junior champ San Beda also zeroed in on the finals with a 2-1 win over San Sebastian.

St. Benilde matched Letran’s advance with a 2-1 nipping of San Beda.

Reigning MVP Regencia overcame the Stags’ Arjohn Dela Cruz, 6-3-7-6, in the first singles, before Jumawan scraped past Arthur Tapalla, 7-6, 6-3, in the second singles.

Letran made it a sweep through the pair of Regencia and Bryan Sarenas, who routed Al-Rashid Manatad and Tapalla, 6-3, 6-3.
