US soccer stars Ali Krieger, Ashlyn Harris confirm engagement

World Cup champions Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris have confirmed their engagement and are set to be married by the end of the year.

The couple shared the news to People yesterday, March 13, months after their September engagement. It was also the first time that the two publicly confirmed their relationship.

Both played for the United States national team and were part of the team that won the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. At present, they are teammates for American professional football team Orlando Pride where Krieger, 34, plays as defender and Harris, 33, as goalkeeper.

Harris proposed to Krieger back in Sept. 15, 2018 while having a picnic on Clearwater Beach in Florida. It was days after the last game of the season and while taking a selfie, Harris held up the ring.

Krieger said she was surprised and that she said yes because she was also thinking of a future with her. She revealed that they had been talking about having kids.

The two athletes became close after first meeting in 2010. They did not want to publicly acknowledge their relationship to avoid being a “distraction” for the team.

Since announcing their engagement, Harris said in the report, “Finally, after all these years, I just feel like I don’t have to hide anything or feel like I’m not living up to the community I’m in.” Niña V. Guno/JB
