Saints grab piece of lead; knights pummel mcdavid for no. 2

St. Clare College-Virtual Reality gained a share of top spot in the Aspirants Group after surviving Batangas-EAC Generals, 80-73, in the PBA D-League Monday at Paco Arena in Manila.

The win was the Saints’ third straight as they climbed into a tie with University of Santo Tomas.

Junjie Hallare led St. Clare with 18 points and 15 rebounds with Irvin Palencia shooting 14 like Joshua Fontanilla.

Showing a lot of character for such a young team, Petron-Letran routed McDavid, 89-64, in the first game.

Jeo Ambohot led the Knights with 17 points and eight rebounds while Jerrick Balanza added 12 points as the Knights won a second straight game after opening with a loss.

Larry Muyang turned in 11 points on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting from the field and had six assists for Letran.

“Actually it’s a good win for a young team against a veteran team,” said coach Bonnie Tan. “Again, we’re here to learn and to get experience in games like this.”

The Knights blew a 17-point lead late in the second quarter as McDavid stormed back in the third behind Dahrrell Caranguian to pull within, 58-54, with 1:16 to go.
