Stallion clobbers Archers, snares UFL top spot
MANILA, Philippines—Stallion Giligans overwhelmed Green Archers United, 5-2, last night to reclaim top spot in the United Football League at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Lee Joo-young hiked his goal tally to seven for the season while Jovanie Simpron struck twice as Stallion notched its fourth win in five matches.
The victory allowed Stallion to vault past Loyola Meralco on top with 13 points.
Bervic Italia and Pi Yong Jae also got in the scoresheet for Stallion, which now has an impressive tally of 19 goals from five games.
Floriano Pasilan grabbed an equalizer with a fine individual effort in the 33rd minute, before putting the Archers within 2-3 in the 69th minute.
But Simpron scored on a low shot from just inside the box to put the outcome beyond doubt 12 minutes from time. Pi fired a long range effort beyond second choice keeper Ivan Fraire to complete the rout in injury time.
The Archers, who shared last place with Navy with just a point, remained in search of their first win in five games.
Earlier, Pachanga stayed unbeaten in the second division with a 1-0 triumph over Cebu Queen City United.
Former national team striker Freddie Gonzales headed the only goal three minutes into the second half as Pachanga grabbed maximum points for the fifth straight game.
Cebu Queen City still has four points from four matches.
