Petron creams Generika in three
Powerhouse defending champion Petron was simply too much for Generika-Ayala, posting a 25-23, 25-13, 25-21 ripping on Tuesday night to move closer to a sweep in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Imports Stephanie Niemer and Katherine Bell took turns hurting the enemy as the Blaze Spikers won a 12th straight game and stayed on course toward duplicating a feat they also pulled out in 2015.
Niemer, who was once a candidate for the United States national team, fired 19 points with 13 digs while Mika Reyes chipped in with 11 kills and three aces for a 14-point effort for the Blaze Spikers, who are two games away from sweeping the preliminaries.
Bell, on the other hand, chipped in 12 points, including a powerful back line kill that sealed the straight sets win.
That 2015 squad, bannered by the prolific troika of Aby Marano, Dindin Manabat and Rachel Anne Daquis, had a total of 13 wins en route to the title.
Cignal, meanwhile, took down PLDT Home Fibr, 25-16, 25-23, 17-25, 25-18 in the second game to improve to 7-6 like its victim.
