TOKYO, Japan—Danny Kingad advanced to the semifinal round of the Flyweight World Grand Prix after topping Senzo Ikeda by unanimous decision in ONE: A New Era Sunday at Ryogoku Kokugikan here.
Kingad proved why he’s among ONE Championship’s fast rising stars with an impressive showing.
The 23-year-old Team Lakay bet was relentless from the opening bell as he and Ikeda let it all out in an explosive encounter.
Cheers rained down for the hometown bet Ikeda but Kingad silenced the crowd with his striking and much-improved ground game.
Kingad quickly established control after taking down Ikeda then, went for a rear-naked choke that the Japanese was able to slither out of.
Kingad faces Kairat Akhmetov next in the semis. Akhmetov beat Fil-Australian Reece McLaren in the other Flyweight World Grand Prix earlier.
