MANILA, Philippines—Pasig Grindhouse booked a slot to the 2019 Fiba World Tour Doha Masters after ruling the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 President’s Cup
The Kings, who will represent the Philippines in Qatar on April 18 and 19, amassed a maximum 360 points throughout the five legs of the inaugural tournament.
They withstood San Juan Knights-Go for Gold, 19-18, to assure themselves of the World Tour berth before dominating rival 1Bataan, 19-7, to claim the championship Sunday at SM Fairview Events Center.
“There’s a lot riding on it for me and it’s bigger than basketball,” said Taylor Statham.
Along with the chance to don Philippine colors, Statham, Jonathan Munzon, Dylan Ababou, and Troy Rike also took home the cool P1 million grand prize.
“It’s attributed to our hardwork. Since we first lost in this league, that really left a bad taste on our mouths. We’re driven every week to push ourselves to get better,” said Munzon, who was named the tournament’s best player.
Both Pasig Grindhouse and 1Bataan will represent the country in the coming Chooks-to-Go Asia Pacific 3×3 Super Quest on April 6-7 where two more tickets to the 2019 FIBA 3×3 World Tour Doha are at stake.
