UAAP volleyball: UP bolsters Final 4 bid, escapes UE
MANILA, Philippines–University of the Philippines needed a lot of help from its bench to overcome University of the East, 25-23, 20-25, 25-23, 24-26, 15-11, Wednesday in the UAAP women’s volleyball at FilOil Flying V Center.
Marian Buitre and Maristella Layug stepped up in the absence of injured star Isa Molde as the Lady Maroons hiked their record to 6-4, keeping alive their hopes for a Final Four slot.
Buitre, seldom used and averaging less than two points a game, slammed down 19 points to power UP. Middle blocker Layug helped up with 18 markers.
Team captain Tots Carlos dished out the usual numbers, making 18 as UP repeated over UE following its five-set win in the first round. The Lady Warriors are on the brink of elimination with a 2-8 card.
