F2 Logistics and United Volleyball Club defeated different opponents in contrasting fashions Thursday night at the end of the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix eliminations at FilOil Flying V Center.
The Cargo Movers swept the Cignal HD Spikers, 25-19, 25-20, 26-24, to solidify second place entering the quarterfinals with their 11th win in 14 games.
F2 will face Foton in the next round enjoying a twice-to-beat bonus, while Cignal clashes with No. 5 United VC with the HD Spikers also having a twice-to-beat shield.
Playing without one import, United VC survived a determined Sta. Lucia Realty, 21-25, 25-18, 23-25, 25-14, 15-11, ending its eliminations on a winning note.
The United Spikers leaned on Fil-American star Kalei Mau and reinforcement Yasmeen Bedart-Ghani, who scored 26 and 25 points, respectively, to register their seventh win in 14 games.
They will face in the quarterfinals, with Cignal taking the fourth and last twice-to-beat incentive over UVC because of better quotient.
“I knew that we had no choice but to take the set (fourth), that’s all we can do to win this and our back was against the wall,” said Ghani. “But still we communicated well.”
