UST Salinggawi win medals in Singapore tilt

MANILA, Philippines—University of Santo Tomas’ Salinggawi Dance Troupe copped a couple of medals in the Asia Cheerleading Invitational Championship in Singapore recently.

Salinggawi took the gold in the Open Freestyle Pom division after scoring 183 points to edge Malaysia’s Xavier Elite who scored 180.5.

UST also won the silver medal in the Team Cheer Open All-Girl Premier Category after tallying 190.5 points.

According to The Varsitarian, UST’s official student publication, Salinggawi head coach Mark Chaiwalla described his team’s medal haul as “overwhelming and satisfying.”

“Although we did not win in the co-ed division, I’m still thankful because we’re competing against international teams that strong,” said Chaiwalla in the report.
