MANILA, Philippines–San Miguel Beer may have dominated Phoenix in Game 1 of their Philippine Cup semifinals series, but the lopsided result isn’t an indication of how the rest of the series will transpire.
That’s how Beermen forward Arwind Santos sees it ahead of Monday night’s Game 2.
“We won so of course, we’re thankful for that but this is a long series. We can’t think that we can just easily beat them or beat them four straight times,” Santos told reporters in Filipino Saturday night after helping his team cruise to a 100-88 win.
“We still have high respect for them. In Game 2, we need to sustain our form from start to finish,” he said.
The Beermen shrugged off a slow start before building a 24-point lead but still had to hold off the Fuel Masters, who made it a seven-point game late.
“We have to keep on improving. We won but we can’t be satisfied. They can beat us anytime if we relax.”
