MANILA, Philippines—Phoenix head coach Louie Alas came to the defense of his big men following a highly-physical semifinals Game 2 won by San Miguel Beer Monday night.

Alas said his wards Justin Chua, Doug Kramer and Dave Marcelo are just physical players and not “dirty.”

Chua, Kramer and Marcelo take turns in defending Beermen giant June Mar Fajardo, who was roughed up several times since the beginning of the series.

Alas also took the blame for the Fuel Masters’ loss in Game 2.

Phoenix lost after blowing a double-digit lead.

San Miguel got into its groove late behind Terrence Romeo and Marcio Lassiter, who combined for 17 points in the final frame.

Lassiter topscored with 24 points while Romeo finished with 14 off the bench. Fajardo posted 19 points and 18 rebounds.

The series resumes on Sunday after the Holy Week break with the Fuel Masters looking to avoid a 0-3 hole.
