Our Aeta athletes doing great

/ 05:03 AM April 17, 2019

Kindly share this warm response from Allianz Philippines on the ongoing efforts of our Aeta athletes, who have been working and training all out to qualify for the national obstacle race team that will compete in this year’s Southeast Asian Games:

Dear Mr. Trinidad,

We would like to thank you on behalf of Allianz Philippines for bringing attention to our initiative of supporting grassroots sports. When we introduced the Aetas from Villa Maria in Porac, Pampanga, to obstacle course racing, we initially wanted them to discover what they can be capable of, if they have been given the opportunity to take part in it.

Doing so, we saw their great potential in excelling in OCR.

FEATURED STORIES

I remember when we had them try the sport in December last year, one Aeta girl said that the obstacle involving sand bags was quite similar to what they do in the mountains. She shared that she usually carries 10 to 15 kilos of “camote” or “ube” to sell to the local market.

We are supporting the Aeta athletes by giving them the proper training with the help of a coach affiliated with the Philippine Obstacle Sports Federation.

They will start training after the Holy Week. We are looking forward to the upcoming OCR competition in June and July.

Should they make a stellar performance in any of these two races, they can qualify as members of the National Team.

We are optimistic and, at the same time, hopeful that they will qualify and inspire others to pursue their dreams.

We are also hoping that they will inspire more young people to dare move forward and overcome challenges.

Allianz Philippines is committed to support OCR to reach out to communities and amplify our message to the young to take courage. We have, in fact, sponsored the OCR National Team to step up our commitment.

Once again, thank you for your support.
