Sen. JV Ejercito called on the Philippine sports community to embrace the “bayanihan spirit” when the country stages the 30th Southeast Asian Games later this year.
The Senate committee on youth and sports member said the Nov. 30 to Dec. 11 Games is a chance for the Filipinos to showcase their skills not just in sports but in hosting big international events.
“It’s always an honor to host international tournaments like the SEA Games,” Ejercito said. “It’s a big boost for sports, tourism and our image.”
Ejercito was San Juan mayor when the country last hosted the biennial Games.
“I remember we even hosted the fencing event in San Juan in 2005,” Ejercito said.
Ejercito said he was assured the facilities will be ready just in time for the Games.
