MANILA, Philippines–Filipino boxing star Jerwin Ancajas has arrived in Stockton, California ahead of his world title defense against Japanese challenger Ryuichi Funai on May 4 at Stockton Arena.
Ancajas will be defending his IBF super flyweight crown against a formidable foe in Funai, who holds a record of 33 wins, including 22 knockouts with seven defeats.
The 27-year-old Ancajas (30-1-2, 20 KOs) hasn’t lost in his last 18 fights.
His previous fight seven months ago, however, was a split draw against Alejandro Santiago of Mexico.
Ancajas looks to retain his belt for the seventh time when he meets Funai, who is on a winning streak of his own having beaten his last seven foes, six of whom didn’t go the distance.
