MANILA, Philippines—Cherry Rondina will head into her second and final Final Four with retribution in mind.
University of Santo Tomas’ superstar will lead the Golden Tigresses to a head-on collision with defending champion De La Salle in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament carrying the memories of Season 79.
Rondina was in her third year with the Golden Tigresses when bowed out of the final four with a four-set loss to Lady Spikers and she vowed that she would give it her all in the rematch that eluded her for more than a year.
“I will do everything I can to get to our goal. There’s no turning back, we’re going all out,” said Rondina in Filipino after UST trumped National University, 27-25, 25-17, 20-25, 25-16, Saturday at Filiol Flying V Center.
Rondina, who finished with 21 points against the Lady Bulldogs, said she will be her usual self in the semifinals.
The Golden Tigresses finished their elimination round as the third seed with a 10-4 record while the Lady Spikers will still have to play Far Eastern University to see if they will improve on their 10-3 slate and lock up the no.2 spot of the tournament.
“I won’t change, this is still me and how I play,” said Rondina who’s in her final UAAP season. “I made a promise and I want UST to win and it’s through my actions that I will show coach and the UST community especially to the people who believe in us.”
“We want to win badly for UST and I hope all our hard work pays off.”
