Kaya gives rude welcome

Kaya Iloilo gave Globe Green Archers United a rude welcome back to top-flight football after a 3-0 whipping last Saturday night for the early lead in the Philippine Premier League at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Goals from Arnel Amita, Joven Bedic and Yannick Tuason secured maximum points for coach Noel Marcaida’s men, who are preparing for a crucial AFC Cup match against Lao Toyota on Tuesday in Bacolod City.

It was a rough start for the Archers as they finally returned to top-flight football after three seasons or after the United Football League folded to make way for the Philippine Football League.

Amita’s curling effort that beat Bandeken Fong in the 11th minute opened the scoring, before Bedic controlled a lofted pass from Tuason and fired a first-time shot to the bottom corner to make it 2-0 five minutes later.

The Archers struggled to carve out chances against a resolute Kaya backline, which welcomed back Azkals legend Simone Rota.
