FEU escapes Ateneo, lives to fight another day for UAAP finals berth

MANILA, Philippines–Far Eastern University survived a turbulent opening set to repulse Ateneo, 10-25, 25-23, 25-22, 12-25, 15-8, Saturday night to force a Final Four decider in the UAAP women’s volleyball at Mall of Asia Arena.

Marching to its own beat against the top semifinalists, the Lady Tamaraws leaned on scrappy plays and determination to come to just within a win of making it back to the finals.

Heather Guino-o topscored with 17 points to power FEU which is on the verge of pulling a big reversal over Ateneo which has dominated all season.

The Lady Tamaraws could only score one in attacks in the opening set but came back stronger to even take a two-sets to one lead. But the Lady Tamaraws once again lagged behind in the fourth, allowing the Lady Eagles to force a fifth set.

But with the Lady Eagles ahead, 5-3, the Lady Tamaraws unleashed a 12-3 windup to force the rubber match on Wednesday.
