UAAP Round up: UP gains football final; UST spikers oust FEU

MANILA, Philippines—University of the Philippines (UP) advanced to the men’s football finals for the third time in four seasons while University of Santo Tomas moved up the stepladder semifinals of women’s volleyball in UAAP Season 74 Wendesday.

Ayi Nii Aryee struck in the 14th and 49th minute as UP beat UST, 2-0, to make the men’s football finals with a front-running 19 points on a 5-4-0 win-draw-loss record. The Fighting Maroons also bagged the twice-to-beat advantage in the finals.
Despite the loss, UST remained second on the table with 15 points on a 4-3-2 card.
In women’s volleyball at the San Juan Arena, UST defeated FEU in their knockout step-ladder duel, 25-22, 23-25, 25-17, 25-21, to move further in the tournament.
The third-ranked UST will next face second-seed Ateneo in the second stepladder match Saturday, where the Lady Eagles hold a twice-to-beat edge. De La Salle, because of a 14-0 eliminations record, is in the finals with a thrice-to-beat privilege.
