NBA rookie Collin Sexton and WNBA legend Ticha Penicheiro said mentors play a key role in the fulfillment of basketball dreams.

“I put myself in their shoes,” Sexton, Cleveland Cavaliers’ rookie guard told reporters at Raffles Makati on Wednesday. “I know how much it felt how that one person you could ask questions to growing up is great.”

“When I was their age, I really didn’t have any female athletes to look up to except my mom. I had to look up to basketball players who were males—
Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Jason Kidd,” said Penicheiro, a future Hall of Famer who made her name with the Sacramento Monarchs.

The pair will have a chance to be a mentor to many youth players aged 13 to 14 when the Jr. NBA Philippines unfolds on Saturday, at Don Bosco in Makati.
