MANILA, Philippines—Call it twin magic or just simple missed identity, but NLEX head coach Yeng Guiao had one of the most interesting moments during the Road Warriors’ 102-87 loss to TNT in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Guiao was seen getting into a verbal spat, which is typical for the fiery tactician, with one of the Semerad twins after NLEX center Poy Erram complained that one of the brothers twisted his arm in a rebounding battle with mere seconds left in the game.
Guiao proceeded to scold Anthony Semerad, but there was one problem—he was talking to the wrong Semerad.

“I didn’t necessarily fight him, I just gave him a stern talking because Poy complained to me that when the game was ultimately decided one of the Semerads were still twisting his arm,” said Guiao Wednesday at Ynares Center in Antipolo.
“So I told the twin ‘that’s not necessary’ because the game was already won. There was no need to be rough or rugged, Poy was complaining, I just needed to get the message across.”
Anthony, who could only shrug off the incident, said that everything was good after the conversation and that it was his brother David, not him, who got tangled up with Erram.

Guiao, who eventually knew after the game which Semerad was the culprit, could only smile about his mistake.
“I don’t care which twin that was, he can just tell his brother about it,” said Guiao with a slight laugh. “I don’t care if I mistook one from another, they know who did it.”
