MANILA, Philippines—Bea Tan and Dij Rodriguez became the second Filipino pair to advance to the Round of 12 after dismantling Malaysia’s Tan Hsi Yan and Tasha Mae, 21-7, 21-15, in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Boracay Open Saturday at White House Beach Station 1.

The duo joined the partnership of Cherry Rondina and Bernadeth Pons in the Round of 12 while Jackie Estoquia and DM Demontaño bowed out of the competition after losing to Russia’s Ekaterina Filina and Ekaterina Zazhigina, 21-14, 19-21, 15-13.

Tan and Rodriguez shrugged off their previous loss to Singapore’s Eliza Chong and Lau Ee Shan, 17-21, 21-13, 16-14, in the opening day of the tournament on Friday.

With a new day ahead of them, Rodriguez and Tan got their rhythm on both ends of the ball sending the Malaysians packing.

Rondina and Pons, however, failed to get an outright quarterfinals pass after losing to Japan’s Satono Ishitsubo and Asami Shiba, 21-16, 21-19.

The two Filipino tandems are still in the competition with the tournament resuming as of posting time.
