MANILA, Philippines—The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League welcomed its newest member with Sarangani being the latest expansion team.
Team owner Pastor Joel Dutaro made Sarangani’s MPBL entry official by signing the contract with MPBL commissioner Kenneth Duremdes, operations head Zaldy Realubit and assistant commissioner Satar Macantal.
“I think this is the first time that Sarangani will be represented,” said Dutaro during the signing of the agreement at the Roadhauz Hotel in General Santos City.
“One reason why we’re giving importance to the LGU is because it’s our way to promote the province or city…The whole Philippines will see that Sarangani has game and what kind of province it is,” said Duremdes.
Sarangani became the third expansion team in two months after the Albay Volcanoes and Mindoro Tamaraws.
The new season of the MPBL opens June 12.
