SUBIC, Zambales—Samantha Corpuz and Zedrick Borja ruled their respective divisions anew in the Alaska Ironkids swim/run event Saturday at Remy Field here.
Borja won his second straight championship in the 13 to 14-year-old boys’ division, clocking in 18:21.9 nearly 20 seconds faster than second placer Jose Maria Tayag who finished with a time of 18:40.1.
Tayag’s twin, Juan Miguel, was at third place with 18:41.3.

“It’s a great feeling because ever since I was 9-years-old I was already joining the Ironkids and before I was only a finisher but as soon as I leveled up, my performance also leveled up,” said Borja, who graduated from his age group, in Filipino.
In the girls’ division, Corpuz crushed her competition in the 13 to 14-year-old age group notching a time of 19:01.4 for the gold medal.

Corpuz’ nearest competition was Lahainah Digermo, who finished the course at 22:04.6 for the silver medal while Princess Patilan settled for the bronze medal with a time of 22:26.2
The victory gave Corpuz her third straight gold medal in the Ironkids and this level of success led to two prominent schools to try her to get to their camps.
Corpuz said that both De La Salle and Ateneo have already recruited her but she’s leaning towards the greener side of the spectrum.

“La Salle and Ateneo have both reached out to me, but I like La Salle more,” said Corpuz, who could be part of the Green Archers’ swimming program, in Filipino.
A total of 62 runners joined the 13 to 14-year-old age group with 30 girls 32 boys all vying for medals.
