ANTIPOLO CITY—Terrence Romeo is set to miss around two more weeks of action due to an inflamed Achilles tendon that he suffered in San Miguel’s finals series against Magnolia in the PBA Philippine Cup.

San Miguel head coach Leo Austria said doctors advised Romeo to rest for at least three weeks and the first seven days have already passed with the point guard sitting out the Beermen’s first two games of the Commissioner’s Cup.

Austria said they found out about Romeo’s injury during the team’s first two days of practice when Romeo complained of pain in his legs.

“The doctors advised Terrence to rest for two or three weeks and that he does absolutely nothing except for therapy and strengthening,” said Austria after San Miguel’s 110-97 loss to TNT Saturday at Ynares Center here.

“He tried to join us in our first two days of practice but experienced some pain and the doctors said that Terrence should rest or else the situation might get worse.”

The Beermen, who’ve won five straight Philippine Cups, lost their games with an average margin of 23 points with their first loss being a 121-88 embarrassment against NorthPort.

Romeo, a three-time scoring champion, was one of San Miguel’s most valuable assets off the bench putting up 15.7 points and providing stability when the starters go for a break.

That stabilizing presence went missing for the Beermen in their two games despite starting point guard Chris Ross returning against TNT.

Ross also sat out San Miguel’s loss to the Batang Pier due to injuries but was able to get back for the against the KaTropa putting up nine points, five rebounds, and eight assists.

“It’s a good thing Chris was able to recover and he contributed a lot especially in the team’s stability and that was missing in our game against NorthPort,” said Austria in Filipino.
