Resilience and strategy will be the key when car teams made up of topnotch drivers vie for top honors on Tuesday in the much-awaited 2019 Petron Kalayaan Cup 12-hour endurance race at Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.
As many as six drivers may alternate on the wheel of each car souped up to withstand the wear of the 240-plus spin around the 4.2-kilometer circuit in the competition loosely patterned after France’s renowned Le Mans race and organized by Batangas Racing Circuit Inc.
Team AutoPerformance-Victor Hardware, with veteran car racers Miguel Dizon, George Apacible and Stefan Ramirez alternating splendidly with Enrique Hormillo, Sung-joon “SJ” Park and Jeff Borja, ruled last year’s Independence Day derby in a 3-liter 1995 BMW M3.
AutoPerformance will be back to defend its title in the Open Class against RaceForm Garage 223 and a host of other contenders. Other early entries are GAC Motor, BRE, Petron Blaze Racing, AutoPerformance 2 and RaceForm Garage 2233.
The race will be flagged off at 5 a.m.
