There was a brief moment in the second set when BaliPure looked competitive enough to steal a set against unbeaten leader PetroGazz Sunday night.
Not that PetroGazz was in trouble at the point, or the match was close in any way. The almighty Angels just had a momentary loss of focus.
“At the end of the day, we had to stay focused,” said prolific import Janisa Johnson. “We managed our errors and it was a win so I guess that’s it.”
Johnson and fellow import Wilma Salas stepped on it and finished with 17 and 14 points, respectively, to preserve PetroGazz’s unbeaten run in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference after a 25-19, 25-22, 25-18 win that meant a Final Four seat at Imus City Sports Complex.
Later, Motolite scored its second win a row with a 25-23, 21-25, 17-25, 25-21, 15-13 win over PacificTown-Army.
Krystel Esdelle and Channon Thompson scored the hits for Motolite as the Lady Troopers rose to 2-4.
Thompson finished with 28 points, while Esdelle had 23 as Motolite handed PacificTown its third loss in six matches.
With imports Alexandra Vajdova and Daniela Dzakovic making 14-9 in the second set, the Water Defenders looked like a tough costumer for the Angels.
But after that, Salas and Johnson spiked away to secure the frame en route to the Angels’ seventh win in as many games.

“It’s a great game, we worked hard in practice this week, of course we’ll have our ups and downs, but we are working hard and do whatever we can to get the win,” added Johnson.
