MANILA, Philippines—NorthPort wingman Jonathan Grey is expected to miss around 10 months of action after suffering a ruptured patellar tendon in his left leg during the team’s Saturday practice.

Grey admitted that the injury has been a big blow not just to his physical well-being but to his overall psyche.

The Batang Pier are on a tear in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup with their 127-99 thrashing of Blackwater giving them a 7-1 record, and missing this kind of run is what Grey is disappointed about.

Grey ruptured the tendon while doing extra work after practice and he heard something pop when he took off for a layup.

“I want to help my teammates especially now that the team has been playing so well,” said Grey in Filipino Saturday at Cuneta Astrodome. “If I could just turn back time I’ll tell myself that I shouldn’t done it.”

“You won’t know what will happen exactly and I’ve been doing this every day and this thing just happened. I think there’s a reason why this happened and I think this is the time that I should take care of myself more as an athlete.”

Grey has been one of the better players for NorthPort this conference putting up respectable numbers of 9.5 points, 2.3 assists, 1.0 steals in just 20 minutes a game.

The third-year player said he’s set to undergo surgery this coming week after consulting and setting up an appointment with orthopedic surgeon Raul Canlas.

“Every player fears this, getting injured in his knee, but this is part of the job,” said Grey. “The first thing I have to do is accept what happened and second is I have to adjust what happens after.”
