NCAA to open 95th season with simple opening rites

MANILA, Philippines—All 10 member schools will have their fair share of the spotlight during the opening ceremony of the 95th Season of the NCAA on July 7 at Mall of Asia Arena.

Peter Cayco of host Arellano University said every school will have its participation in the opening rites, which will have a Filipiniana theme highlighting the Filipino fiesta tradition.

“Each of the 10 presidents of the 10 universities or schools will have their time to give their messages to be played during the opening ceremony,” Cayco said Tuesday during the PSA Forum at Amelie Hotel Manila.

“The theme will be showcasing all the member schools and not just the host school.”

The opening ceremony is at noon before men’s basketball action fires off at 2 p.m. with Letran taking on back-to-back runner-up Lyceum.

Arellano and defending champion San Beda duel in the main game.

Aside from basketball, other sports in play this season include volleyball, swimming, athletics, taekwondo, lawn tennis, chess, football, beach volleyball, soft tennis, badminton, and table tennis.

This season also features women’s lawn tennis as a regular part of the league calendar.
