MANILA, Philippines–Bowling youth standout Merwin Tan bagged his third international title this year after winning the boys’ masters youth championships of the 51st Singapore International Open over the weekend.
The 19-year-old from Marikina City rolled 1,687 pinfalls in eight games to beat Malaysian Megan Zaqrul Haiqal by five pins in the finals. Japanese Keita Tokushia placed third with 1,657 during the tourney held at the Singapore Bowling Tamasek Club.
Bea Hernandez followed Tan to the podium after placing second in the girls’ youth masters. Hernandez was seven pins short (1,667) against champion Yuen Hui Shan Natalene of Singapore (1,674).
Tan, the current Asian youth champion after winning the plum early this year, recently won the men’s masters title in the Philippine International Open Tenpin Bowling Championships.
With three international titles in a span of four months, Tan’s confidence will definitely soar in time for the 30th Southeast Asian Games on November 30 to December 11.
