Justin Brownlee gets much-needed help in Ginebra’s bounce-back win

MANILA, Philippines—Justin Brownlee went from a solo act to being a part of quarter in a span of two days.

Barangay Ginebra’s charismatic import shared the limelight with his teammates this time around when the Gin Kings turned back Alaska in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup 118-106 Sunday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Brownlee put up 27 points with 14 rebounds and eight assists in the win and but he wasn’t the only Gin King with superstar numbers.

Stanley Pringle also had 27 points and had eight assists while Japeth Aguilar and LA Tenorio had 22 points apiece.

“I think we did a great job of balancing out our scoring, I just think the most important is when we needed stops here and there we did a better job tonight,” said Brownlee.

This scenario, though, was different in Ginebra’s 111-103 loss to Phoenix.

Brownlee had 31 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists, six steals, and three blocks—numbers that would immediately jump out of any page—and he also scored 21 of Ginebra’s 22 points in the fourth quarter alone.

Stellar numbers indeed for Brownlee, but his Herculean act wasn’t enough for the Gin Kings to defeat the Fuel Masters.

“They played great, I just think sometimes you maybe lose a little rhythm, sometimes you have bad games,” said Brownlee. “I think you just have to stay aggressive and just stay with it and I think you’ll be alright.”
