The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League isn’t only giving opportunities for community hoops standouts to live out their professional dreams.
It also offers second chances to those who have already tasted the pro life.
Getting a new lease on their careers, Mac Baracael, Almond Vosotros and Gwynne Capacio are making the most out of their opportunities after being left without a team at the start of the PBA season.
Baracael has emerged as the go-to-guy for expansion team Mindoro, which he led to its first victory at the expense of Parañaque, 63-61, on Tuesday night at Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in Malolos.
The former Far Eastern U standout, who played eight seasons in the PBA, fired 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Tamaraws, who evened their record to 1-1 while sending the Patriots to their second loss in three outings in the Lakan Season.
“My role is different here compared to the teams I’ve played for, but the important thing to me is that the opportunity is there to continue my career,” said Baracael, who played for Meralco last season.
Vosotros, meanwhile, fueled the Caloocan Supremos, who hammered out an 83-74 triumph over Zamboanga in the second game.
The former De La Salle gunner finished with a season-high tying 31 points as the Supremos picked up their first win in four outings.
Capacio, the son of PBA great Glenn Capacio, led the Bulacan Kuyas past Basilan Steel, 65-55, in the third game.
Drafted by the Purefoods franchise two years ago, Capacio did not play a single PBA game.
