Tolentino says POC will follow IOC poll instructions

Resigned Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) chair Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino on Thursday announced that the local Olympic body would heed the call of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Olympic Council of Asia to set the POC polls on July 28.

James Macleod, IOC director for Olympic solidarity and NOC relations, said the POC executive board must convene on July 8 and form the election committee.

The notice also said whatever election processes the POC board wants to apply should be ratified by the general assembly on July 18.

“So take note of these three dates, July 8, 18 and 28. The IOC has set them as well as the agenda of these schedules. We will strictly follow them to the letter,” said Tolentino, who will run for president.

The vacancies to be filled are chair, president and two board members after former POC head Ricky Vargas, Tolentino and board members Clint Aranas of archery and Cynthia Carrion of gymnastics resigned.
