Buenafe rescues volcanoes

Veteran guard Ronjay Buenafe has played the game at a high level long enough to understand there’s no use in dwelling on misses regardless of how big it was for his team.

Thrust into the role as go-to-guy again, Buenafe atoned for his poor finish in regulation with a stellar overtime performance to lead the Bicol Volcanoes to an 81-78 triumph over Imus Bandera Monday night in the MPBL Lakan Season at Cuneta Astrodome.

The 36-year-old Buenafe shot 26 points, including five in the extra period, to lift the expansion team to a third win in five games.

“The team needs me to stay composed and be a leader so even though I missed, I cannot be disheartened,” said Buenafe, who bungled a technical free throw with 12 seconds in regulation and a short stab just before the buzzer.
