Que romps to Southwoods title
CARMONA, Cavite—Angelo Que turned what was expected to be a close finish into a cakewalk on Friday, shooting a six-under-par 66 to win the talent-laden ICTSI Manila Southwoods Championship, pulling away from Australian Tim Stewart at the complex’s Legends course here.
Que opened with a bogey but gunned down all seven of his birdies inside his next 10 holes, closing with a 22-under 262 to win by five strokes as Stewart could only shoot a 67. Justin Quiban and American Christopher Hickman—who started the day tied for second—returned a 69 and 70, respectively.
“I sort of knew that I was in control when I led by four [strokes] after the 10th hole,” said Que, who had an eye-popping total of 25 birdies and an eagle in the first round against just five bogeys in the event over the layout he calls home.
Clyde Mondilla fired a 66 and tied Hickman at 269, with American Lexus Keoninh firing a 65 to finish another stroke behind, one ahead of Olympian Miguel Tabuena (65).
