MANILA, Philippines—Army Fritz and Macziol ended a four-game winless run with a 3-2 nipping of Navy Red Juice Wednesday night in the United Football League at the University of Makati pitch.
Jeffrey Lobaton scored two goals in the second half and Champ Baron added another as Army denied Navy its first win while moving up to fifth with eight points.
It was Army’s first win since its 2-1 conquest of Global last Jan. 15.
Arnold Carino gave Navy the lead in the 35th minute, sending Army keeper Ed Sacapano the wrong way on a one-on-one chance, but Army came out firing after halftime.
Roel Gener created a couple of early chances, before Lobaton struck from just inside the box to beat Tomas Talipan in the 51st.
The veteran midfielder showed his class with a curling free kick from 25 yards out that put Army in front two minutes later.
A flowing move involving Gener and brother Ronel set up Baron for an easy goal against a helpless Talipan for 3-1 in the 60th minute.
Navy cut the deficit in the 64th minute with Carino heading in Marlon Pinero’s free kick.
But as the game opened up, Army looked the more dangerous team.
Navy, which missed suspended players Reydric Viliran, Loreto Kalalang and Alfie Caminos, stayed at the bottom with just a point to show in six matches.
