MANILA, Philippines—Robert Bolick is building that Rookie of the Year resume up.
NorthPort’s protégé captured his first Rookie of the Month award in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup after leading the Batang Pier to the second-best record in the conference at 9-2 heading to the playoffs.
Bolick also flourished in his solo act when mentor Stanley Pringle was traded to Ginebra on June 18 and that departure gave way for the 23-year-old to carry the reins for the Batang Pier.
In the first three games since Pringle’s deparure to the Gin Kings, Bolick averaged 16.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 7.3 assists.
Overall, Bolick put up 15.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 6.0 assists last June leading the Batang Pier to a 4-2 card in the month.
This wasn’t just Bolick’s first award this month after he was named Player of the Week for June 17-23 when he averaged 19.5 points, 7.5 rebiunds, and 9.5 assists.
Bolick, who was the third overall pick in the 2018 Draft, beat out top two picks CJ Perez of Columbian and Bobby Ray Parks of Columbian after getting 15 of the 19 votes for the award.
Perez, who received four votes, averaged 25 points, 7.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 2.8 steals to lead the Dyip to a 2-3 slate in June.
Parks, who was nominated but didn’t garner any votes, had 23.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists as the Elite went 2-2 in the month.
