‘Makati Destroyers’ strike again as Capitals thwart Super Crunch

Quezon City coach Vis Valencia knows this wasn’t an ordinary victory for his Capitals on Tuesday night in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL).

“We were joking in the locker room that Makati was coming into the game on a winning streak again,” Valencia said. “The players were joking that we’re the Makati destroyers.”

The Capitals completed a sensational comeback as they stunned the Super Crunch with a 91-85 win that jacked up their record to 4-2 in the Lakan Season at Blue Eagle Gym.

Joco Tayongtong fired seven points in a 10-1 burst in the final 1:28 as the Capitals rallied from 15 points down to snap Makati’s four-game winning streak.

Quezon City also ousted Makati in the playoffs last season.

“We’ve been thinking about this matchup for a week,” Valencia said. “We were playing Iloilo in Pampanga and we still talked about Makati.”
