Candidates in the coming Philippine Olympic Committee elections will be given two days to campaign for the posts they are seeking.
The campaign period starts right after the election committee, tasked to handle the polls at Century Park Hotel in Manila on Sunday, announces the qualified candidates for the four vacant positions of the POC.
“We’re in the midst of finalizing the procedures. This will involve, in general, a two-day [campaign] period for all the candidates for the four positions,” said lawyer Teodoro Kalaw IV, a member of the “elecom” designated by the POC general assembly, on Tuesday.
Kalaw met with Fr. Vic Calvo OP of Letran and Rep. Conrado Estrella III at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan to map out the guidelines for the elections.
Joining them was first vice president Joey Romasanta.
Cycling chief and former POC chair Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino will contest the presidency, possibly against track and field head Philip Ella Juico.
Running for chairman are Steve Hontiveros of handball and Robert Aventajado of taekwondo. Clint Aranas of archery, Lani Velasco of swimming and Cynthia Carrion of gymnastics have announced their candidacy to fill up the two slots in the board of directors.
