PSL: Cignal HD thwarts Marinerang Pilipina’s upset bid

MANILA, Philippines–Cignal HD picked up its fifth win by sinking surprisingly tough Marinerang Pilipina, 25-20, 25-15, 24-26, 27-25, late Saturday in the Philippine Superliga All Filipino Conference at FilOil Flying V Center.

Shaking off the rust from their week-long break, the HD Spikers utilized their more experienced lineup to hike their record to 5-5 while inflicting the Lady Skippers their 10th defeat in as many games.

But the Lady Skippers managed to extend it to a fourth set, touching off a late run after leader Chiara Permentilla injured her left knee after making it 19-all in the third set.

The Lady Skippers kept the score close in the fourth through Judith Abil and Dimdim Pacres and even erased two match points before HD Spikers defense blocked Caitlyn Viray for the win.
