Yao big WW President’s Cup winner

Dean Yao, a 27-handicapper, captured the overall title in the 19th President’s Cup golf championships recently at Wack Wack’s picturesque East course in Mandaluyong.

The 60-year-old vice president of Steel Asia Manufacturing Corp., Yao shot 51 points under the Stableford scoring system to edge Jun Taki and Manuel Sta. Cruz via countback.

Yao also went home with a brand new Mazda 2 1.5V put up by ANC+ Group of Companies after scoring a hole in one on the 16th hole.

Taki settled for the seniors’ crown, beating Sta. Cruz in another countback. Michael Go settled for third place with 48 points.

Beta Epsilon golf up at Sta. Elena

The Mike Villanueva Cup—9th Purple Tower Tee—an 18-hole event hosted by the University of the Philippines Beta Epsilon fraternity, tees off Monday at posh Sta. Elena in Cabuyao, Laguna. The event is being held on the occasion of Beta Espilon’s 90th anniversary as the oldest college-based fraternity in the country. A banner field of 144 players will answer the 8 a.m. shotgun teeoff, with the proceeds aimed at helping to sustain the fraternity’s scholarship fund.
