Less than a month removed from one of his most dominating performances in years, Angelo Que has confirmed participation and is looming as one of the players to beat in the ICTSI Riviera Classic that tees off Wednesday at the complex Langer layout in Silang, Cavite.
The long-hitting former Philippine Open champion is looking to make the most out of his break from the lucrative Japan Tour and, together with Juvic Pagunsan, will provide star power in the P2.5-million Philippine Golf Tour event.
They are also tipped to be the favorites in the 72-hole championship.
Que ruled the Southwoods stop of PGT Asia last month and will come into the event fresh like Pagunsan.
Closing out with a six-under-par 65 at the Legends course of Manila Southwoods, Que destroyed a stellar international field last month, which included Pagunsan.
Pagunsan came into that event with a three-tournament streak and was looking to make it four-in-a-row right there, only to fail to keep up with Que.
Jobim Carlos, Jay Bayron, Jhonnel Ababa, James Ryan Lam and Justin Quiban are the other notable local players in the field.
Pagunsan is aiming for a record fourth straight PGT win after the region’s former No. 1, who also campaigns in Japan, swept the last three legs of the four-stage Visayas swing in June.
Carlos, on the other hand, is out to snap a string of forgettable finishes in the circuit he dominated on his way to clinching the 2018 Order of Merit title, seeking a victory on a course where he also reigned as PGT Asia leg champion last year.
