MANILA, Philippines–The UAAP has appointed ASEAN Basketball League technical director Jensen Ilagan as the new commissioner for Season 82 men’s basketball tournaments.

He will be overseeing the men’s and women’s basketball competition starting September 4 when the new season opens.

Aside from filling in a key post in the ABL for the last four years, the 37-year-old Ilagan is also a FIBA-certified table official.

“I’m humbled to be the new UAAP Commissioner. I will do my best to uphold the league’s integrity through fair competition,” said Ilagan in a press release.

One of Ilagan’s plans for this season is the video review initiative where the officiating pool will be required to review the games that were played after every game day.

“If it’s a good game, it will be the standard. If it’s a bad game then it will serve as a lesson for the officials as well,” said Ilagan.

The final pool of game officials will be revealed two weeks before the UAAP opening after intensive training starting next week.

From 174 referees who attended the tryouts last month, the pool has been trimmed down to 73.

Meanwhile, former Ateneo Blue Eagle LA Mumar was named tournament director to assist Ilagan this season.
