MANILA, Philippines–Petron fought through the tough first two sets to score a come-from-behind victory over erstwhile unbeaten F2 Logistics, 26-28, 27-29, 25-19, 25-20, 15-6, Thursday night and take solo top spot in the Philippine Superliga All Filipino Conference at FilOil Flying V Center.
Just when the Cargo Movers appeared to be cruising to the win after taking the extended frames, the defending champion Blaze Spikers called in scrappy substitutes Bernadeth Pons and Chin Chin Basas to score their 12th win in 13 matches.
Pons scored 16 points, while Basas had seven off the bench as Petron avenged its first-round defeat to F2 Logistics, shattering the Cargo Movers’ dominance after winning their first 11 matches.
Sisi Rondina let loose 20 points, while Ces Molina added 19 for the Blaze Spikers, forming the third-set strike force that allowed Petron to slowly get back into the match through sheer attack points.
