MANILA, Philippines—Petron survived a big upset plot by Foton to score a 25-23, 24-26, 24-26, 25-22, 19-17 thriller late Saturday in the Philippine Superliga All Filipino Conference at Corpus Christi Gym in Cagayan de Oro City.
The two-time defending champions Blaze Spikers found themselves trailing, 13-11, in the deciding set but Sisi Rondina kept slamming down spikes to preserve their 11-game winning streak.
At 13-1, Petron is assured of top spot in the sudden-death quarterfinals against winless Marinerang Pilipina.
The Tornadoes fell to 7-6, tying the resting Cignal HD Spikers who will likely be their quarterfinal nemesis as they are lodged in fourth and fifth places
