MANILA, Philippines—San Miguel forward Arwind Santos has asked TNT big man Terrence Jones’ forgiveness after his racist gestures in Game 5 of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals Wednesday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Santos, who was fined P200,000 by the PBA for his discriminatory actions and was required to do community service and counseling, posted a video on his Twitter account saying sorry to Jones.
“First of all, I would like to say sorry to Terrence Jones. I don’t mean anything bad for you, I hope you forgive me.”
“Gusto ko rin humingi ng taos pusong pagpapatawad sa fans ng Talk N’ Text, San Miguel, at PBA. Sa lahat po ng nasaktan, wala po akong masamang intensiyon at inaamin ko pong nagkamali ako.”
(I also want to ask for wholehearted forgiveness from the fans of Talk N’ Text, San Miguel, and PBA. To everyone I’ve hurt, I don’t have any bad intentions and I admit I did something wrong.”
Santos was seen mocking Jones with a monkey gesture late in the second quarter of the Beermen’s 99-94 in Game 5 that gave them a 3-2 series lead.
The 2013 MVP was initially unapologetic of his actions, saying all he did was play “mind games” with Jones but after a day the veteran player changed his tone.
“I’m sorry, sana mapatawad niyo ako, tao rin po akong nagkakamali po ako. Sana mapatawad niyo ako.”
(I’m sorry and I hope you forgive me. I’m only human and I make mistakes, I hope you forgive me.)
