The Green Triathlon program of the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (Trap) has earned praise from the sport’s governing body, the International Triathlon Union.
In line with the ITU’s TriGreen initiative promoting environmental conservation, Trap organized workshops and specific programs in races.
“Trap’s Green Triathlon programs are aligned with our objectives,” said ITU secretary general Loreen Barnett.
With the help of the International Olympic Committee’s solidarity fund, Trap organized an environmental awareness workshop recently, discussing ways to reduce pollution and waste in triathlon events nationwide.
The topics ranged from Greenpeace Movement’s Detox campaign and the Ayala Foundation’s solid waste management campaign.
The Green Triathlon was launched a year ago and was also implemented at the 2011 Subic Bay International Triathlon.
“We are very happy with the results and inputs generated from the workshop,” said Trap president Tom Carrasco. “It shows the our stakeholders are responding well to our call for more active efforts in supporting our Green Triathlon program.”
