TNT, San Miguel renew rivalry in Macau for Super League

MANILA, Philippines–Just a little over a month after figuring in a thrilling finals series in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, San Miguel Beer and TNT are set to renew their rivalry overseas in the Terrific 12 East Asia Super League beginning September 17 at Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion in Macau.

The Beermen, who beat the KaTropa in Game 6 on Friday to claim the PBA championship, will be joined by the Blackwater Elite, who were one of the biggest surprises last conference.

The Terrific 12 will also feature some of the top basketball clubs in the Chinese Basketball Association, Japan’s B.LEAGUE and Korean Basketball League.

Representing China are the Liaoning Flying Leopards, the Shenzhen Aviators, and the Zhejiang Guangsha Lions while Japan will have the Chiba Jets, the Niigata Albirex, the Ryukyu Golden Kings and the Utsunomiya Brex. The Jeonju KCC Egis and the Seoul SK Knights will be the two Korean sides competing in the tournament.

The teams will be divided into four groups with each team playing two games. The top team in each bracket will move on to the semifinals.

The champion will be awarded USD 150,000 while the runner-up and third placer will take home $100,000 and $50,000, respectively.

The “Super League” was first held in 2017 with only eight teams before adding four more participants last year.

Last year, a PBA D-League selection represented the Philippines.
